It's advertised as steel, and it is steel. It is very sturdy, has a rim on the bottom that slides easily (this is what I was looking for), and I am already starting to think about other uses for subsequent ones I'm likely going to buy.

Both the frame and the mesh are extremely durable and sturdy. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for tools.

There are no snags or jags on any of the surfaces or edges.

Really impressed with this item, and will be buying more.
