This unit has and double sided track for the bearings, so the bearings are not rolling on the wood. Apparently some other brands - the bearings are on the wood and the big problem is the bearings press dents into the wood in the shipping process so the unit then does not rotate smoothly. The base plate of the bearing unit is 9" wide so the unit is stable. The top also has the lip which is nice so things don't slide off in rotation. Not included, I got some round place mats and downsized them to fit the 11.25 inch inset. (they are easy to downsize, they are a continual coil of flat braid that is stitched into a circle - so all you do is unroll a few 'coils' to resize, then stitch the end under.)
